Sharing Oracle "gotchas" when building 11g RAC environments

Book Review: Oracle 11g Streams Implementer's Guide

Having worked closely with and obtained a keen interest in Oracle Streams 11gR1, I was eager to review the "Oracle 11g Streams Implementer's Guide".

Initially I found the book disappointing. This was largely due to some inaccurate facts and constant reference to the Oracle documentation. Although this could be deemed as a positive attribute, I have found the Oracle documentation to be a little vague, requiring some interpretation.

In my view, the key to writing a good Oracle book is to publish facts and examples that are not available in the official documentation.

However, as I progressed though the remaining chapters I found the book to be "refreshing to read" as it addressed the facts in more detail.

I particularly enjoyed the practical examples with the illustrated code that can be downloaded from the Packt Publishing Website:

This book does provide an excellent reference to Oracle Streams components and configuration, both 11gR1 and 11gR2. Even Oracle GoldenGate and XStreams get a mention!

Out of all the available books on Oracle Streams, this is probably one of the best. I am very happy to have the "Oracle 11g Streams Implementer's Guide" on my book shelf.

As a footnote, I would welcome more focus on the Capture and Apply process performance tuning parameters. This is a very interesting area that could provide content for an additional chapter.
